I am always flummoxed by the way time moves us through space. It has been a month since I posted on the website, and well babes, a whole heck of a lot has happened. 
On April 10th and 11th I trained a small pilot cohort of 4 individuals, all previous students of my herbal teachings and accomplices in community, plus 2 auditors. It was both a breeze and nerve wrecking in a way that I can only explain as- I wanted to do my very best for people I care for and love deeply in my heart. I have so much confidence in their ability to take this new healing technology, 5NP, and reach people in communities that may not be reached for nervous system and substance abuse care. I was nervous with the responsibility to do this teaching in a good way. To pass the knowledge down and the spirit of the medicine in such a way that it can live in them. Added fuel to the already bright fires they all carry. 

It felt extra special because I was able to teach in the bedroom of the late cicely b. rodgers. cicely wanted her home to be a shared community space of learning- Reclaiming ancestral ways of being and Political Education. It felt bittersweet, I cried many tears while preparing the room for class. I spoke to her a lot while Selin, her partner, and I put up the projection screen. Played with the curtains and set up a the seating. It was a real change of an era for Fehu House. Fehu, a rune representing cattle, community wealth. cicely talked about Fehu a lot. With her friends, her partner, and asked us to think on what community wealth meant to us. For me these days, community wealth is our inherited technologies-healing modalities, security modalities, magic, and lessons in failure. I think about how I can help to build our community wealth and true wisdom.  

I learned a lot from this pilot training and am in the process of reorganizing the slide deck and polishing the online classroom platform. 

In the time outside of preparing for the training, acquiring the materials for training, and setting up the space for the training. I have also been offering 5NP at the Herb House on 1st and 3rd Thursdays. from 5-8pm (last person seated at 730pm). You can find a calendy link on  Contact tab to book a 30 min session! You can also schedule time with me if you wanna scheme up a pop up ear clinic or a training for your crew. 

I have also been offering care clinic pop ups and home visits. BUSY! I KNOW 

I have been allowing time for rest. I give myself time before a training (3 days) and time after a training (3 more days) because I NEED that time! I need it to rest, digest and integrate, to pray and to meditate, to just rest and let my body do what it needs. I also tend to my body. I am in recovery for disordered eating and I am working to feed my meat suit regularly. And y'all if you aren't in a practice of feeding yourself, it is hard to develop the practice. So yeah, feeding myself, cleaning my house and doing my laundry, spending time with my old man dogs and getting body movement in ! It's A LOT!

I'm disabled. I have 3 chronic illnesses (physical body) and 2 chronic mental health illnesses. Resting and tending to my capacity has been a hard lesson and practice but it's VITAL for may ability to show up in a good way for my community. For my beloved relatives, comrades, accomplices, in the struggle. And because I take the responsibility of walking with this Medicine of 5NP, so very seriously, I am also very committed to tending to my self. 

I feel so grateful and truly blessed with luck to get to live this life and do the things I get to do. I believe it to be my centli, my purpose, and I want to be able to walk with this medicine in a good way. I owe it to the ancestors of Craft and Spirit along side my ancestors of Blood. I am humbled by the brilliance of this cohort. I am ready to hold the respondsibilty of supporting their journey in holding this Medicine, and I invite you to also send up a little bit of love and support to these brilliant earthlings who have already been doing community labor. May their path with 5NP be a sweet one, a path of continued learning, moments of being humbled, and moment of the kind of joy that makes your eyes fill up with tears and wonder how beauty can exist along side so much destruction. May we be the tenders in the rubble and the supporters of the reconstruction. In a good way.

It's a New Moon! And new projects are rolling out. It's incredible! 5NP is now legal to practice in Oregon as a non acupuncturist and I am now registered as an official 5NP Technician AND Trainer for future 5NP Techs. I am so grateful for all the hands and minds and words and efforts that have brought us here. Gratitude to the Ancestors of Spirit and Craft for laying the foundations. Gratitude to the aligned hearts and minds for caring on the work. The gift of 5NP is finally here for us to care for our communities and empower others to care for community. We take care of us!
As the spring is emerging, and the weeks and days and months of our neighbors being targeted, terrorized and stolen, I hope.
My heart breaks a million times a day, as the oozing and crusted veil is being peeled back to reveal the deeply infected wound of settler colonial rule and white supremacist patriarchy claws to retain power.  
My heart mends a million times a day right along side the heart break as I look around at my neighborhood, at my communities, at my comrades putting in the work. Because we take care of us. 
Each of my kin doing the work in the ways they know how. If you are feeling stuck and struck down by despair, I invite you to look around to see who is helping. Plug in. We need you.


The garden is blooming and I have been feeling well enough to do some work to tidy up and make way for new plants. I have spent the winter resting, getting into the flow my body needs and reestablishing connections that have fallen of, creating new ones and working to maintain the ones I have been able to keep going. All the while, working on my art practice and thinking about my capacity and the offerings I want to give to community. 
I am working on doing 5NP pop ups for people directly impacted by the secret police. Their families, and the people doing direct support to them. And I am working to offer trainings so that others can become registered 5NP Techs. 
This entails sometimes doing house calls, offering herbal support like tinctures and teas from the garden. And offering the herb library for others doing care work for people in community. 
And Training future 5NP techs. I will be running a pilot training in mid April that is at capacity now and another in partnership with WCA at the end of April that is also FULL UP! Wow, good job folks getting on the waiting list. 
I will be offering trainings thru WCA AND offering trainings under my own Trainer Registry #. 
WCA trainings i will refer you to if you and your organization has a budget for professional development. 
BUT for folks who cannot afford the general price point of a training plus the registration fee...(FAQ on that on the OMB website)

Hi there friends. It's been a minute. 2024 was a rough year for me physically, spiritually, emotionally, in community and i needed a break. My chronic illnesses were not in check. I stepped away from social media. I broke off connections with some people i was in relationship and work partnership with. My very good friend and co-conspirator died.  
Since October 2025 I have been doing deep self work, tending to my current relationships, re-establishing a loving relationship with myself, navigating disability and reading. I've been reading. I committed to reading only Black and Brown  authors this year. and as of November 2024 i have read 35 authors of non fiction and fiction. 
I took up beading. In 2024 I took a series of classes on beading style basics at shipwreck but in January i took a 9 course online class to learn bead sculpture for anatomy with Teresa Sullivan, a brilliant bead artist and student of Joyce J. Scott. 
I have been helping out some farmer friends,  doing herb stuff. I finished up a community Herbalist course through now and then herb school in May of 2024
I have been tending to relationships. 
I've been doing activism.
Right now I am working in community to bring awareness to the new legislation that passed and was signed into law June 11, 2024 that allows non acupuncturists to become 5NP technicians. 
I learned about 5NP in 2020 when Canoe Journey Herbalists brought two instructors Monica Lucero and Arlo Star from Red Root Acupuncture in New Mexico (https://www.redrootacupuncture.com). It was on Puyallup territory and they were training the herbalists who show up to support canoe families during journey. It was the beginning of the pandemic, and it was the beginning of a shift for me. 
How, as a person who grew up in Chicago, with a background in public health and harm reduction care, did i not know the history of the Black Panthers Party and the collaboration of the Young Lords and their work in the South Bronx  -
Anti Blackness and Racism is why. but that's another story... you can learn more yourself here.
I didn't get trained that year when Monica and Arlo taught, I learned and was trained through CJH in 2022 with Phyllis Spears.  
Non sequitur but i swear it's relevant--
Okay so, I'm a disabled vet and i rely on the VA hosptial for my health care. I have chronic pain and in 2024 i was finally able to get referred to the pain clinic at the VA. A process that required a 10 page essay application packet, an interview panel and months of waiting. it wasnt until mid 2024 that i learned that i could get acupuncture at the VA from a doc. You know what i got? 5NP...and it was really really helpful. I got ear seeds too. and other acupuncture points. 
but the thing is 5NP up until March 1 2026 can only be provided by a licensed acupuncturist, or MD. 
Unless you are on tribal lands those laws and regs don't apply ...which is why i got to experience it and learn to provide it to my community.

I was privileged to participate in an advisory committee to the Oregon Medical Board this past month, (2 dates in August, 1 in September) with a group of people comprised of Acupuncturists, Doctors, and Community members. 
I was interested in participating because as soon as i heard it was an initiative going to the capitol, I wanted to share my experience with 5NP and show support for it's passing and allowing people like me, who are community care-workers, who aren't ever gonna be a doctor, but do good work and have good community reputations, to offer this healing modality to their communities who would otherwise not receive it. Leading to gateways of opening up care routes that may not have been considered. 
I have been able to offer ear seeds and at the 2023 and 2024 come thru market free boot for Juneteenth and Black August we offered ear seeds at the 5 points for community. I offered ear seeds to protestors at PSU during the student protests in 2023. i've shared zines and showed others how to use the seeds. 
This new legislation would allow me to offer the needles as a registered technician. and you could too. 
This matters for communities that are historically excluded in Oregon, a state that was established as a white haven. 
it matters for us to have the legacy of the work of the Black Panthers Party and the Young Lords to be honored like community clinics and free breakfast and community schools. 
They were revolutionaries, and we are touched by their work every day. 
SO you made it this far, I have an ask. Will you participate in helping us push for the regulations for 5NP techs to be accessible?
I have homework for you and it comes with a quick turn around time deadline. because it's important. Shit, i got back on the internet to ask you to join me. 

I need you to show up this Friday September 12 to the meeting OMB is having to discuss the regulations further. 
We need as many people as possible to show up to a virtual meeting next Friday 9/12 from noon to possibly 2 pm. You don’t have to speak or have your screen on! We just need to show up in numbers, the more of us the better. You can also provide written comments if you submit them no later than 24 hours ahead of time, by Thursday. And so it’s VERY important that we send a message that the public is watching this process. After my time on the committee, i do trust that the Oregon Medical Board supports the spirit of the law -- but in a way the OMB needs our help too. They are required to listen to Oregonians which includes the acupuncturists who are yelling that 5NP is dangerous. We need to show up so that the OMB can demonstrate that they are listening to us too. Tell your friends and your family! Even short written comments like “I support 5NP” are helpful.
